Badeyes is About Making the Web More Accessible

Posted under: ARIA

Geof Collis sitting in front of his computerBadeyes Design & Consulting started up back in 1999. Flash had just come into its own and Multimedia sites were all the rage, but they were not without problems. Even so Badeyes created some pretty entertaining and interactive Multimedia sites, of course owner Geof Collis had the eyesight to create them. but that didn’t last long, his vision started to fail and he quickly learned how inaccessible Flash and the Internet were to a person with a Disability, especially vision loss.

At this point Badeyes Design & Consulting moved in another direction. With the help of screen reader software, JAWS(Job Access With Speech)Badeyes started building websites that were accessible to Persons With Disabilities(PWD).

Studying World Wide Web Consortium(W3C) Guidelines and best practices of the day, Badeyes were able to create websites that were some of the most accessible to PWD’s and that has not stopped to this day.

Following Web Content Accessibility Guidelines(WCAG) is a never ending process, one that Badeyes is all to aware of and continually strives to update its knowledge base in order to produce industry leading accessible websites for PWD’s.

Badeyes also educates the public on the merits of an accessible website by way of Consultations, Workshops, Site Audits and via a Newsletter it created at Accessibility News.

Badeyes also started up a website devoted to the Ontarians With Disabilities Act(AODA) at www.aoda.ca one of whose standards deals with accessible websites.

Badeyes will continue to find ways to educate the public that accessible websites benefit everyone and not just PWD’s.

An accessible website is just plain good business!
